Prevest Zinconol is a polymer-reinforced zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) dental cement used as an intermediate restorative material (IRM) for temporary restorations. It is specially formulated with reinforcing agents that enhance its mechanical strength and durability, making it suitable for short-term restorations in clinical dentistry. The material provides a reliable seal and protects the tooth structure during interim treatment phases.
Key Features
Zinconol offers high compressive and tensile strength, comparable to zinc phosphate cement, ensuring durability under functional load. It has low solubility and minimal film thickness, which enhances marginal adaptation and longevity. The material also exhibits excellent abrasion resistance and improved physical properties due to polymer reinforcement.
Applications
It is widely used for temporary fillings in Class I and Class II cavities, as a base under amalgam and non-resin restorations, and for sealing the coronal portion of teeth during endodontic treatment. It is also useful in emergency dental procedures where immediate temporary restoration is required.
Advantages
Zinconol provides excellent sealing ability, thermal insulation, and ease of handling. It helps protect the pulp, reduces microleakage, and ensures patient comfort during temporary restorations. The powder-liquid system allows clinicians to control consistency and working time, making it a versatile and dependable choice in dental practice.
